Block Play

When children engage in block play they are developing the understanding that several things put together can represent one whole product. This skill leads to the understanding that when you put several letters together they make a whole word. During block play children also explore with patterning, symmetry, sequencing and ordinal numbers. These skills are important in future understanding of math concepts. Other math skills developed in the block area are fractions, whole parts, shapes, sizes, and 3-D objects.
